Turkey in November 2026 — what to expect
Shoulder ends, Istanbul turns atmospheric, first Cappadocia snow possible late month.
Go for an Istanbul-led trip with a Cappadocia extension if you want shoulder prices. Skip the coast — it's progressively closing.
Weather across Turkey in November
| City | High / Low | Rain |
|---|---|---|
| Istanbul | 14°C / 9°C | 11 rain days |
| Antalya | 21°C / 12°C | 8 rain days |

November is the transition into winter. Istanbul cools into the low teens with grey atmospheric afternoons, Cappadocia stays workable through mid-month before first snow possibilities arrive late November, and the coast progressively closes. Hotel prices drop sharply in the second half of the month. Best for travelers who want quiet sights, atmospheric Istanbul, and Cappadocia at near-winter prices.
Weather and feel
Istanbul: 14C high, 9C low, rain on roughly 11 of 30 days. Damp, grey, atmospheric — the city's winter character setting in. Cappadocia: 11C high, 1C low, with first snow possible from mid-November though typically arriving from mid-December. Antalya: 21C high, 12C low, sea at 19C — too cold to swim. Bodrum: 18C, sea 17C — same situation. The coast is in active shutdown mode by mid-month.
What's open / closed
Istanbul is fully open at normal operations. Cappadocia is fully open and balloons fly at a 75 to 85 percent reliability rate — declining through the month as cold and pressure systems set in. Antalya resort hotels close progressively through November, with most shut by month's end; Antalya old town (Kaleici) stays operational year-round. Bodrum, Fethiye, Kas — effectively closed for the resort experience by mid-month. Pamukkale stays open at year's quietest crowd levels.
Events and festivals
The Istanbul Marathon falls in the first weekend of November — the only marathon in the world that crosses two continents on foot, runners going Asian to European side over the Bosphorus Bridge. Hotels near the route fill the night before. November 10 is Atatürk Memorial Day, the entire country observing a moment of silence at 9:05 a.m. (Atatürk's death time) — sirens sound, traffic stops, museums close briefly. The Akbank Jazz Festival continues from October into early November.
Best cities to visit
Istanbul is the headline. Atmospheric, quiet, hammam-friendly, and hotel rates drop sharply from mid-November. Stay in Sultanahmet for sights or Beyoglu for evening atmosphere. The Bosphorus on grey afternoons is its own aesthetic. Bosphorus cruise options for the moody-weather alternative.
Cappadocia works through the first three weeks of the month. Pre-snow late-autumn light, low crowds, and hotel rates 30 to 40 percent below October. After November 25 you're into early-winter probability with first snow possible. Winter Cappadocia guide.
What to skip
The entire coast for resort purposes. Antalya works for one or two nights as an old-town city break — Kaleici is genuinely picturesque in shoulder weather. Bodrum, Fethiye, Kas are closed for what most travelers go there for.
What to pack
Mid-weight winter kit. Wool sweater plus rain jacket for Istanbul. Full winter for Cappadocia, especially balloon mornings (basket air at -2C even when ground is at 5C). Waterproof walking shoes — Istanbul rain is persistent. Layers for sharp temperature swings between morning and afternoon. Full packing guide.
Verdict
November is the right month for an Istanbul-led trip with a Cappadocia extension if you want shoulder prices and atmospheric weather. Wrong month for any coast plans. Hotel rates in the second half of the month drop 30 to 40 percent below October — see our cost breakdown for tier numbers.
